First Night Raleigh

I led the creative development of the First Night Raleigh campaign which required a versatile design system that could be implemented into posters, shirts, buttons, television spots and more. A bright color palette and energetic brush stroke imagery brought the fun night of celebration to life.

Artsplosure asked us to develop a theme and visual branding for the 2011 First Night Raleigh celebration. The project called for a wide variety of executions, so the concept had to be extremely versatile with comprehensive systems thinking. We presented several concepts and one of my themes was chosen, built around colorful brush strokes that captured the essence of the organization — cultured, free spirited and full of energy.

Clean typography was set inside a variety of brush strokes — some abstract and some revealing objects, people and iconic imagery from the event. A bright color palette and loose visual elements created a sense of energy and fun (which was the perfect combination for New Year’s Eve) and helped the identity become instantly recognizable across tactics.
